Product Introduction

The Eternal Beauty of Rhythm – Japanese Group Fine Arts

In Japanese, it is called kumiko, with complex and diverse patterns that do not require a single nail or rivet, forming a subtle combination of mortise and tenon. The assembly craftsmanship has very high requirements for the size, angle, and accuracy of materials.

Simple patterns can become a timeless art due to careful arrangement. Just repeat the basic patterns continuously, you can get the impressive beauty of rhythm. If you want more advanced and complex patterns, you can choose several patterns to combine at will. The general advanced group fine products are usually composed of 2-3 basic small patterns, which are often used on common articles such as Sliding door, cabinets, household utensils, etc.

As the group needs to be light, straight and easy to process, it needs to use hardwoods such as coniferous wood. The common ones are juniper (Muzengbei), Picea sitchensis, Shendai, also known as millennium cedar, ground cedar (Baitai), Akita, ground cedar (naked), and yellow cedar.

Natural Finishes:Often left untreated to showcase the wood’s grain, or sealed with natural oils (such as camellia oil) to enhance durability and highlight texture.

eometric Versatility & Symbolism: Patterns can be scaled or repeated to fit various surfaces, from small room dividers to large ceiling installations.Lattices balance privacy (e.g., in shoji doors) with light filtration, creating dynamic shadows that shift with the sun.

Traditional Joinery Techniques: Strips intersect at precise angles, held together by friction and wooden pegs (kugi) for structural integrity. The craft relies on hand-cut grooves (tsugi) and interlocking joints, a testament to ancient woodworking skill.
